Policies & Procedures for Ms. Rice's Math Classroom
Bathroom Passes ---> Each student will be given a bathroom pass that will be kept on the front table. If you need to use the restroom you must fill out the pass and get Ms. Rice to sign it before leaving. You also must take it with you. At the end of the semester, any unused passes will earn you extra credit. You may not use the restroom during class discussion or notes. You may go during individual or group work times.
Warm Ups ---> At the beginning of class each day you will have something to do. Most of the time we will work through warm ups which will count as classwork grades. Usually this will be review material of math content you have seen previously in this course or prior courses. It is the expectation that your write them down and work through them on your own while homework is being checked.
Note taking ---> It is expected that when I am taking notes with the class that you are writing them down too! After class, notes will be posted on class schoology page as well. During this time of class there should be NO talking unless you are called upon. Pretty simple!
Homework ---> You can pretty much expect to have some amount of homework on a nightly basis. Each day at the beginning of class I will come around to check to see that you attempted each problem assigned. You will get a stamp in the appropriate grade box. If all problems are attempted then you should get a 100%. - There might be times when a graphing calculator is need to complete a problem. In this case you need to show as much work as you can until the point of which a calculator is needed. - If you are unable to solve a problem for some reason, you must write some sort of explanation as to why you could not do any math work in order for it to be counted as attempted. If all problems are not attempted on time, then a 100% will not be given. Late work will follow school policy for 8 pts counted off each day late. Sometimes an alternate assignment might be given in order to get credit since we usually go over homework solutions in class. *HOMEWORK IS TO HELP YOU PRACTICE A MATH SKILL & IT IS NECESSARY TO PRACTICE IN ORDER TO MOVE ON TO NEW CONTENT which happens almost daily. If you don't do the practice required, you WILL get behind and be lost =( *
Seating Arrangement ---> You might hate it but I will pick where you sit. If you have specific reasons for a place to sit (like bad vision and need to sit close to the front) please let me know. They may change weekly, quarterly, or on an as needed basis.
